C&N Successfully Delivers 500 MSS SP-97 Duplex Stainless Steel Branch Outlets to Key Project

Recently, our company successfully completed production and packaging of a batch of MSS SP-97 duplex stainless steel branch outlets , and formally shipped them to the corresponding project client.

Duplex Stainless Steel Branch Outlet: A Reliable Pipe Connector Under MSS SP-97 Standard

Product Category: MSS SP-97 Duplex Stainless Steel Branch Outlet – The Preferred Fitting for Severe Service Conditions

In high-corrosion, high-pressure scenarios such as chemical processing and offshore oil & gas, the connection reliability of pipe branches directly affects system safety. Our MSS SP-97-compliant duplex stainless steel branch outlet, combining precision forging technology and superior material performance, serves as a core fitting for complex operating conditions.

(1)Core Manufacturing Process: MSS SP-97-Compliant Integral Forging Procedure

This branch outlet adopts hot die forging + isothermal sizing process, strictly adhering to MSS SP-97 requirements for structural integrity:

  • Billet Preparation: ASTM A182 F51 duplex stainless steel round billets are homogenized at 1150°C ± 20°C to eliminate material segregation, ensuring uniform microstructure for subsequent forging.
  • Die Forging Forming: A 6300T hydraulic die forging press is used to integrally form the main pipe saddle surface and branch connection, avoiding intergranular corrosion risks from segmented welding. The saddle surface fitting tolerance is ≤ 0.2mm (meeting MSS SP-97 flatness specifications).
  • Groove Processing: The branch connection features U-groove + local passivation treatment, with groove angle controlled at 37.5° ± 1° and land thickness at 2.0mm ± 0.5mm – this satisfies welding penetration requirements while preventing excessive ferrite content during duplex stainless steel welding.
  • Heat Treatment: After forging, solution treatment at 1020°C + rapid water cooling is applied, stabilizing the austenite-ferrite phase ratio at 50% ± 5% to balance mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

(2) Core Product Specifications

  • Executive Standard: MSS SP-97 (Manufacturing standard for branch outlets, caps, and other pipe fittings)
  • Dimension Information: Main pipe size 8IN (SCH 40S), branch pipe size 2IN (SCH 10S) (supports full-range reducing combinations from DN15 to DN600)
  • Material Standard: ASTM A182 F51 (Duplex stainless steel, i.e., 2205 duplex steel)
  • Material Properties (Directly Replicable):
    • Chemical Composition: C ≤ 0.03%, Cr 21.0-23.0%, Ni 4.5-6.5%, Mo 2.5-3.5%, N 0.08-0.20%
    • Mechanical Properties: Tensile strength ≥ 620MPa, Yield strength ≥ 450MPa, Elongation ≥ 25%
    • Corrosion Resistance: PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) ≥ 34, capable of withstanding long-term corrosion in 50°C, 20% NaCl solution.

(3) Product Advantages

  • Compared with traditional open-hole welding or standard stainless steel branches, this product’s core advantages include:
  • Structural Reliability: The MSS SP-97-compliant integral forging process creates an integrated structure between the branch and main pipe saddle surface; the stress concentration factor after welding is ≤ 1.2 (vs. ~2.0 for traditional welding methods).
  • Superior Corrosion Resistance: The combination of F51 duplex steel and solution heat treatment provides 4x higher resistance to chloride stress corrosion and pitting than 316L stainless steel.
  • High Adaptability: Compatible with welding to ASME B36.10/19 standard pipes, covering high-pressure, high-corrosion scenarios in oil & gas, chemical processing, seawater desalination, etc.

In pipe branch connections, MSS SP-97-compliant branch outlets are gradually replacing traditional methods, primarily due to:

  • Standardized Specifications: MSS SP-97 defines dimensional tolerances, welding grooves, and material matching requirements for branch outlets, eliminating adaptation risks of non-standard parts.
  • Application-Specific Design: Tailored for complex conditions (reducing, high-pressure, high-corrosion), the MSS SP-97 branch outlet’s structural design better fits practical needs.
  • Cost Efficiency: Integrally forged branch outlets require no additional welding reinforcement, reducing long-term maintenance costs while shortening construction cycles.

Order & Packaging Details

This order consists of 500 branch outlets as supporting fittings for the client’s pipe system. To adapt to long-distance transportation conditions, we adopted a customized packaging solution: “inner rust-proof film + middle shock-absorbing foam + outer galvanized iron drum”. Multilingual labels (e.g., “Moisture-Proof”, “Handle with Care”) are marked on the outer packaging to ensure no rust or damage during transit.
