How to make the pipe fittings more resistant

When working on a piping project, the steel pipes and fittings are often subjected to wear and tear, especially when the flowing liquid contains impurities, sands, or slurry. To reduce this abrasion, several technical measures can be taken.

Firstly, it’s important to assess the liquid condition and choose the appropriate steel material for the fittings. This may include using wear-resistant steel or adding wear-resistant coatings or lining materials such as cement or ceramic.

Secondly, special treatment can be applied to specific pipe fittings such as elbows, tees, and reducers. For example, increasing the thickness of the outer radius of elbows can help reduce wear and tear.

Thirdly, rotating steel pipes, concentric reducers, and caps periodically can help extend the life of the piping system. By inverting them, the maximum bottom wear is transferred to both sides followed by the minimum top wear.

Lastly, the position, direction, and angle of pipe fittings can also affect abrasion. Unsuitable positioning can cause cavitation, which can speed up the wear and tear of pipings. It’s important to consider these factors when designing a piping system to minimize abrasion.
