Applications of ASTM A240 316/316L

316/316L steel exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in both atmospheric and oxidizing environments, including marine atmospheres, even in welded conditions. Typically, 316/316L steels are non-magnetic when annealed, though cold drawing or rolling can impart slight magnetism, which can be rectified with further processing. These steels are utilized in environments exposed to saltwater, sulfuric acid, chloride, petrochemicals, and high heat. Common applications include tanks, supports, frames, enclosures, housings, and engine and motor components.
