About EN 1092-1 Type 01

The EN 1092-1 Type 01 flange is also known as a ‘plate flange for welding’. It is also commonly referred to as a ‘steel ring flange’ or ‘S/O plate flange’. It is a loose-type flange that is very similar to a slip-on flange, but without a hub. The Type 01 plate flange can be slipped onto the pipe prior to welding. Two fillet welds (one internal and one external) are required to join the pipe and the flange. It can be supplied with a flat face (FF) or a raised face (RF), depending on the buyer’s requirements. According to EN 1092-1, Type 01 plate flanges are available in eight pressure ratings: PN 2.5, PN 6, PN 10, PN 16, PN 25, PN 40, PN 63 and PN 100. The dimensions and weights of the corresponding flanges are listed in the tables below. All dimensions are in millimetres and masses/weights are in kilograms.

EN 1092-1 Type 01 plate flanges may be made from forgings or flat products (plates). They can also be machined from rolled or forged bars and forged section steel. For larger sizes, they can be bent and welded using electric welding from bars, section steel or strip. Flanges can be manufactured from a wide range of material grades, including carbon steel, low alloy steel, stainless steel, and other high-alloy steels.

The EN1092-1 PN100 WNRF flange is suitable for high-temperature, high-pressure, and corrosive environments, such as steam pipelines and reactor inlets/outlets in energy and chemical industries, or corrosive media like acidic fluids (e.g., sulfuric acid transport) and high-viscosity slurry pump/valve connections. It is also extensively used in shipbuilding and cryogenic engineering.

Primary materials for the EN1092-1 PN100 WNRF flange include stainless steels 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321, and 310S. These steels meet international standards, offer excellent corrosion resistance to various media, and demonstrate outstanding resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater and other chloride-containing environments. Among them, 316L stainless steel exhibits low thermal expansion and higher thermal conductivity than austenitic stainless steels, making it suitable for operating temperatures up to 300°C.

In contrast to the DIN standard,EN-1092-1 only specifies the pipe connection dimensions of
the ISO series.
