1. GH3536 Material Overview
GH3536, also designated as GH536 or UNS N06036, is the Chinese standard equivalent of the internationally known Hastelloy X. It is a classic iron-rich, solid-solution strengthened nickel-chromium-molybdenum superalloy standardized under GB/T 14992, GJB 1952A, and relevant HB aviation industry specifications. The alloy achieves its strength solely through solid-solution strengthening from chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten—there is no precipitation hardening phase.
Key Differentiator: Unlike precipitation-strengthened superalloys such as GH4169 or GH4141, GH3536 retains excellent ductility and extremely low susceptibility to welding cracks even after prolonged high-temperature exposure.
Service Limits:
- Continuous service: up to 900°C
- Short-term peak temperature: up to 1080°C
Thanks to its outstanding formability, weldability, and moderate cost, GH3536 is the preferred material worldwide for non-rotating hot-section components in gas turbines, industrial furnaces, and aerospace combustion chambers.
We supply a full range of finished and semi-finished products: seamless pipes, forged fittings, flanges, plates, sheets, bars, ring forgings, and custom precision structural forgings for aerospace, power generation, petrochemical, and environmental equipment projects.

Why This Composition?
- High Chromium: Forms a dense, anti-oxidation oxide scale at elevated temperatures.
- Molybdenum & Tungsten: Boost solid-solution strength and provide resistance to sulfidation and carburization.
- Moderate Iron Content: Lowers raw material cost and improves hot workability.
- Low Aluminum/Titanium: Eliminates brittle γ’ precipitation, ensuring excellent weldability and resistance to post-weld embrittlement.
3. Heat Treatment & Mechanical Properties
3.1 Standard Heat Treatment
All GH3536 products are supplied in the fully solution-annealed condition.
- Solution treatment: 1160–1190°C, held then rapidly water quenched. (For sheets thinner than 1.5mm, forced air cooling is used.)
- Purpose: Fully dissolves intergranular carbides, homogenizes the single-phase austenitic matrix, and eliminates residual stresses from processing.
- Stress Relief (welded assemblies): Conducted at ≤870°C.
Every shipment includes a complete heat treatment log, PMI spectral test report, and mechanical certification.
3.2 Room-Temperature Mechanical Properties (Minimum, Solution-Annealed)
- Tensile Strength: ≥690 MPa
- 0.2% Yield Strength: ≥275 MPa
- Elongation: ≥40%
- Brinell Hardness: ≤210 HB
3.3 Physical & Service Temperature Characteristics
- Density: 8.23 g/cm³
- Average Thermal Expansion (20–900°C): 15.2×10⁻⁶/°C
- Service Range: -196°C to 900°C continuous; 1080°C short-term peak
- Additional Benefits: Stable thermal conductivity, uniform expansion, excellent thermal shock resistance, and no ductile-to-brittle transition at cryogenic temperatures.
4. Core Performance Advantages
4.1 Superior High-Temperature Oxidation & Hot Corrosion Resistance
GH3536 develops a continuous, tightly adherent Cr₂O₃ protective film in high-temperature oxidizing environments, effectively blocking further oxygen diffusion. It delivers outstanding resistance in sulfidizing flue gases, carburizing furnace atmospheres, and chlorine-containing media—far outperforming standard stainless and low-alloy heat-resistant steels in waste incineration, heat treating, and low-quality fuel gas turbine environments.
4.2 Balanced Creep & Rupture Strength Below 900°C
Multi-element solid-solution strengthening from Mo-W-Cr provides reliable medium-temperature creep resistance and long-term load-bearing capacity up to 900°C. The alloy resists permanent deformation under sustained thermal-mechanical cyclic loads, meeting the extended service-life requirements of stationary hot-end structural parts without frequent replacement.
4.3 Exceptional Fabricability & Zero Weld Sensitization
The single-phase solid-solution matrix enables superior hot forging, rolling, deep drawing, and precision CNC machining. Compatible welding processes include GTAW, GMAW, SAW, and laser welding, using matching Hastelloy X filler wires. No intergranular carbide precipitation occurs after welding, eliminating the risks of joint embrittlement and cracking under thermal cycling.
4.4 Long-Term Microstructural Stability
Without Al/Ti precipitation strengthening elements, GH3536 does not form brittle intermetallic phases even after thousands of hours at high temperature. Grain size remains uniform without severe coarsening, ensuring consistent mechanical and anti-corrosion performance throughout the entire service life.
4.5 Cost-Effective, Comprehensive Performance
The relatively high iron content reduces raw material costs compared to high-purity nickel precipitation alloys like GH4141 and Alloy 718. At the same time, it retains full high-temperature oxidation and hot-corrosion resistance—making it the most economical choice for mass-produced industrial high-temperature non-rotating components.
