1. Material Overview
Nickel 200 (UNS N02200, W.Nr. 2.4066, domestic grade N7) and Nickel 201 (UNS N02201, W.Nr. 2.4068, domestic grade N5) are standard wrought commercially pure nickel alloys. Both grades contain a minimum 99.0% combined nickel and cobalt, manufactured in full compliance with ASTM and ASME pressure equipment specifications. They are globally recognized for exceptional alkaline corrosion resistance, superior thermal and electrical conductivity, and excellent ductility across cryogenic to medium-high temperatures.
The key difference lies in carbon content control:
- Nickel 200 has a standard carbon limit for ambient-temperature service.
- Nickel 201 uses an ultra-low-carbon design to prevent graphitization embrittlement at high temperatures.
Both grades excel in reducing environments, dry halogens, and strong alkaline media, offering far better caustic corrosion resistance than stainless steel and super-austenitic alloys.
- Nickel 200 is rated for continuous service ≤ 315°C, ideal for ambient chemical and electrical components.
- Nickel 201 is approved for long-term operation up to 677°C, making it the primary material for high-temperature caustic, hydrogen reforming, and fluorochemical systems.
We supply a complete range of UNS N02200 and N02201 products, including seamless pipes, forged fittings, anchor flanges, plates, sheets, bars, and custom pressure forgings.
2. Nickel 200 & Nickel 201 Chemical Composition (wt%)
All data strictly follows UNS registration and ASTM B160 / B161 / B162 / B564 standards, ensuring batch stability and industrial consistency.
| Element | Nickel 200 (N02200) | Nickel 201 (N02201) |
|---|---|---|
| Ni+Co (min) | 99.00 | 99.00 |
| C (max) | 0.15 | 0.02 |
| Fe (max) | 0.40 | 0.40 |
| Mn (max) | 0.35 | 0.35 |
| Si (max) | 0.35 | 0.35 |
| Cu (max) | 0.25 | 0.25 |
| S (max) | 0.01 | 0.01 |
Critical Note: The low carbon in UNS N02201 eliminates graphite precipitation, ensuring structural integrity up to 677°C. Trace impurities are tightly controlled to preserve pure nickel’s high conductivity and alkaline resistance.

3. Heat Treatment & Mechanical Properties
3.1 Standard Heat Treatment
Products are delivered in stress-relieved or fully annealed condition at 700–870°C with static air cooling. This removes residual stress, homogenizes grain structure, and maximizes ductility and weldability without harming corrosion resistance. Thick forgings and welded components receive secondary stress relief. Full heat treatment records, PMI reports, and mechanical certifications accompany each batch.
3.2 Room-Temperature Mechanical Properties (Annealed, ASTM Standards)
Nickel 200 (UNS N02200 / N7)
- Tensile Strength: ≥ 380 MPa
- 0.2% Offset Yield Strength: ≥ 145 MPa
- Elongation: ≥ 35%
- Brinell Hardness: ≤ 95 HB
Nickel 201 (UNS N02201 / N5)
- Tensile Strength: ≥ 345 MPa
- 0.2% Offset Yield Strength: ≥ 138 MPa
- Elongation: ≥ 40%
- Brinell Hardness: ≤ 90 HB
3.3 Physical & Service Characteristics
- Density: 8.89 g/cm³
- Mean linear expansion coefficient (20–300°C): 13.3 × 10⁻⁶ /°C
- High electrical and thermal conductivity, stable ferromagnetic properties, excellent cryogenic toughness
- ASME max continuous service temperature: ≤ 315°C (N02200), ≤ 677°C (N02201)

4. Core Performance Advantages
4.1 Superior Alkaline Corrosion Resistance
Forms a dense, self-stabilizing nickel oxide passive film in full-concentration alkaline media. Completely immune to caustic stress corrosion cracking, a common failure in stainless steels. Ideal for chlor-alkali and alkaline concentration industries.
4.2 Reducing & Dry Halogen Resistance
Stable performance in reducing atmospheres, dry chlorine, dry fluorine, and hydrogen halide gases. Low-carbon Nickel 201 provides extra structural stability for high-temperature fluorochemical systems.
4.3 High-Temperature Stability of Low-Carbon N02201
Nickel 200 may suffer graphite embrittlement above 315°C. N02201’s ultra-low carbon eliminates this risk, preventing thermal fatigue cracking in cyclic high-temperature service.
4.4 Outstanding Fabricability & Weldability
Annealed pure nickel exhibits excellent cold bending, deep drawing, stamping, and machining. Weldable via GTAW, GMAW, and SMAW with matched filler metals. No post-weld hardening or sensitization, ensuring reliable on-site assembly of large vessels and piping.
4.5 Electrical & Thermal Functional Properties
High conductivity makes both grades suitable for electrical components, vacuum equipment, and heat exchangers. Stable ferromagnetic properties meet precision electromagnetic instrument requirements.
