Shipping Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coating to Russia

Last week, we successfully delivered a series of customized pipe fittings to our clients in Russia. These pipe fittings were coated with Fusion-Bonded Epoxy (FBE) coating, a protective coating that provides corrosion resistance to steel pipes and pipelines. The FBE coating process involves heating the surface of the material and applying an epoxy powder that melts and fuses to create a durable and protective layer. This coating not only prevents corrosion but also extends the lifespan of the materials, ensuring their integrity in various environments.

In terms of codes and standards, we adhere to the latest editions at the time of detailed design works. The Contractor is expected to be familiar with the details of the relevant standards and documents referenced in our project. If there are conflicting parameters with different values between the Standard and our Specification, the values mentioned in our Specification shall prevail.

Some of the important standards and documents we follow include:

● AWWA Manual M 11: Steel Pipe – A Guide for Design and Installation
● AWWA C 213: Fusion-bonded Epoxy Coating for the Interior and Exterior of Steel Water Pipelines
● ASTM D4585: Standard Practice for Testing Water Resistance of Coatings Using Controlled Condensation
● NACE TM 0186: Holiday Detection of Internal Tubular Coatings of 250 to 760 μm (10 to 30 mils) Dry-Film Thickness
● DIN EN ISO 4628-8: Paints and varnishes – Evaluation of degradation of coatings – Designation of quantity and size of defects, and intensity of uniform changes in appearance – Part 8: Assessment of degree of delamination and corrosion around a scribe or other artificial defect
● DIN EN ISO 9227: Corrosion tests in artificial atmospheres – Salt spray tests
● SSPC-SP-COM: Surface Preparation Specifications
In addition to these standards, we also consider all other standards listed in AWWA C213 and their references.

Regarding the specifications, the Contractor must also observe the following:

● G02: General Description of Project and Works
● G03: Project Execution
● M02: Polyethylene Coating
● M18: Handling, Storage, and Transportation of Line Pipe Material
One of the specific pipe fittings we delivered was a DN500 PN10 B1 EN1092-1 pipe with a length of 2500 mm and a thickness of 10mm. One end of the pipe has a flange (WN-flange on the right side as per layout) DN500 PN10 B1 EN1092-1 with an inner diameter of 472 mm. The opposite end has a non-standard flange type 02, which has the same dimensions as a flange DN600 PN10 EN1092-1 (outer diameter, distance between the holes, size of the holes, etc.), but with an adjusted inner diameter for the DN500 tube made of Steel 20.

The FBE coating applied to these pipe fittings is gray in color, with a minimum coating thickness of 350um. This coating provides excellent protection against corrosion and ensures the longevity of the pipe fittings.
